4 Great Questions to Ask a Commercial Contractor Before Hiring Them

Did you know over a thousand general contractors currently service the San Francisco Bay Area? That’s a lot to choose from, and we understand how overwhelming it can be to find the one that will get the job done the way you envision it.

It’s always a good idea to get the foundational questions answered right away (e.g. licensing, insurance, permits), but asking your prospective contractor these other questions might narrow down your options and help you find the perfect fit for your project.

1) Who have you worked with in the past?

Unless you were referred to someone, you most likely found your prospective contractor on Google or a seemingly unending list of contractors in your area. In that case, you probably have little to no idea of who they are and what they stand for as a company. That’s why it’s so important to have an understanding of what projects your prospective contractor has worked on in the past. Ask them who they’ve worked with, and call those people. Look for testimonials and project galleries on their website. Repeat clients are a tell-tale sign of the company’s credibility and trustworthiness.

2) Do you foresee any challenges with this project?

A good contractor will be upfront and honest with you about anything they see as a potential roadblock. Here at G&G Builders, we expose the outcome our clients will end up with from the very beginning, and we’re totally transparent with our process. An occasional problem may arise (usually out of our control), but you can count on us to always make them right.

3) How long have you been working in the area you service?

When it comes to construction, having extensive experience with the pertinent city or county is crucial. Many rules and regulations come with building and permitting, so working with a contractor who already has substantial experience working in your area will help move your project along seamlessly and safely. No surprises, no complications.

4) How do you communicate with your clients?

Streamlined communication is key to a project well done. From the first phone call to the last, everything should be clear, simple, and smooth. Good construction does not have to be complicated. Because our team is small at G&G Builders, the same person will oversee your project from start to finish. For over 20 years, we’ve refined our communication so our clients can feel confident that we’ll get the job done the right way, the first time around.

Whether it’s tenant improvement or design-build, G&G Builders is here to help bring your vision to life. Give us a call if you have any questions (now you do!) - we are more than happy to answer them. We look forward to working together with you!
