Three Reasons Why Architects Are Turning To Prefabricated Structures

At G&G Builders, we believe that good construction doesn't have to be complicated. With prefabricated structures, buildings can be swift, cost-effective, and even temporary.

Here are three incentives for a rapid shift to prefabricated structures.

A Higher Standard In Half The Time

Developing a site plan using traditional construction techniques can require a great deal of time, money, and resources. However, once vertical construction begins, prefabricated structures produce a variety of time-saving benefits for both the owner and general contractor. They have proven to minimize weather delays and subcontractor scheduling issues, expedite the inspection process and reduce material lead times, all while standardizing the level of quality and saving the client time and money. In short: A higher standard in half the time.

Prefabrication And The National Housing Crisis

In an industry suffering from labor shortages as well as rising material and labor costs, many builders are turning to prefabricated structures in an attempt to generate more housing units in a shorter amount of time. Across the State, the median home price has surpassed $800,000 while producing only around 80,000 units annually (FRED) - a figure experts say needs to double in order to combat escalating home prices.

Compared to affordable housing using traditional construction techniques, the lower-construction costs for prefabs call for less government affordable housing subsidies and taxpayer money. In other words, prefabs call for fewer government resources while increasing the annual supply of state-wide housing units for people experiencing homelessness or low-income families.

What Goes Up, Can Be Altered

Because prefabs are deconstructable, they can also be rapidly revised and altered. Therefore, if the client wants to extend their prefab structure, builders can quickly make additional parts using identical materials. This results in a more cost-effective solution than relocating or acquiring traditional materials such as stone or brick that can be challenging to match with the original structure.

Building For Our Community

Prefabs create a streamlined construction process that significantly reduces the time and resources used to erect a structure from start to finish. As Sprung Structure's No. 1 installer in Northern California, G&G Builders has had the privilege of working on innovative prefabricated building solutions. From structures like the SAFE Navigation Center in San Francisco — which helps our neighbors experiencing homelessness — to commercial projects for large corporations like Tesla. G&G Builders continues to use prefabricated structures to provide the highest-quality facilities with integrity and unyielding compassion for our community.
